Program Note
This percussion ensemble piece explores a whole palette of textural and rhythmic variety based on a single rhythmic motif which is counted as “1e a2”. Starting with this very small cell from the first measure to the last, it develops and encompasses a whole range of new contexts to both challenge the players as well as excite them. Sounding quite tribal and heavy, for the first and last main sections of the work, the middle contrasts with a lighter and slower groove. The piece ends in a loud swell of percussive sound to end the piece quite dramatically.
