Listen to Goodnight, Sky
Program Note
This piece evokes the onset of the night. It’s both a mysterious and foreboding time that affects everyone differently. The sun is well past the horizon as dark blue hues overtake the sky in a seamless transition from day to dusk.
Beginning with a slow, melancholic introduction, the piece suddenly tumbles into a frenzied display of agitation and dread that some fear because of the darkness. The piece returns to the previous slower and somber mood as it reaches an emotional climax before ending in much of the same way it started.
