Program Note
Autumn is a time of both introspection and joy for me. Being my most favorite time of year, this quiet and soulful season allows me to restore my inner-most being. The idyllic scenery of the shifting hues of red and gold along with the atmosphere of the crisp autumn air is captured in the piece. Beginning playfully, the piece transitions to a more emotion-provoking setting as transition and change is a major theme in the work. The middle section is slow and legato to both provide contrast and to paint a picture of the serene and meditative qualities of the season. With a quick recapitulation of the energetic ideas found in the beginning, the piece reaches its zenith in full glory towards the end of the work. Finally, the piece slowly ends with a new harmonic language as the cold winter sneaks in.
